The Black-throated Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus) is a bird that inhabits beaches, coastal sandbanks and lagoons. Known as Txirritxo hankabeltza in the Basque Country, Corriol Camanegre in Catalonia or Píllara das dunas in Galicia, its population, like that of many other species, has been seriously affected by the transformation of our coasts and wetlands. From Ideas MedioAmbiental we are participating in their protection, sponsoring a conservation project on the beaches of the Salnés Region, in Pontevedra, in the Rías Baixas.
So far this campaign, of the five priority beaches for the species in this region, breeding has been confirmed in two of them with five protected nests of the 6 located. Two have already hatched, one with 3 and the other with 2 chicks, one preyed and the rest incubating.
Regarding the marking tasks, in order to be able to monitor them, it was possible to mark two females with remote reading rings.
