Conference on transfer and research in forest management
On February 25, the Environmental Ideas team attended the scientific and management event that took place within the framework of the Museum of Paleontology of Castilla-La Mancha, this being the conference of transfer and research in forest management organized by the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha and the INFOCAM.
José Almodóvar, Deputy Minister for the Environment, began the day, who highlighted the importance of promoting sustainable practices within natural spaces, stressing that forest management, in addition to being a necessity, is a shared responsibility between citizens and the administration.

Researchers' exhibition
Throughout the event, several researchers presented projects they had been working on, most of them focused on fire science and how carrying out controlled burns can yield decisive results when it comes to managing fire during and after the fire.
Along these lines, the professor at ETSIAMB in Albacete, Manuel Esteban Lucas, analyzed how the severity of the fire has a direct effect on the erosive processes that can later occur in the burned ground. This condition, he said, could be mitigated by the immediate application of techniques such as mulching. The researchers Javier Madrigal and Daniel Moya, for their part, focused on how controlled burns can serve as a preventive management tool, analyzing the benefits of burns carried out in their studies within the Serranía de Cuenca (El Pozuelo, Beteta), in addition to the Albacete mountains (Aýna, Lezuza), being the objective of studying several feet of Pinus nigra.

The Junta technician Javier Antonio Pérez, for his part, presented a project that is currently under development consisting of the control of vegetation for the prevention of forest fires through the use of ungulates for hunting purposes. The project is currently under development within several social reserves and sample plots within the Public Utility Park of Peñasnegrillas (province of Ciudad Real).
Conclusions
To conclude the day, a round table was held in which the speakers exchanged ideas and discussed innovative strategies to improve the sustainability and resilience of forest ecosystems and natural spaces, especially in Castilla-La Mancha.
After this last part, both the research and teaching staff, as well as the administration staff, certified their willingness to collaborate in search of the sustainable and responsible maintenance of the natural resources that Castilla-La Mancha has.
