The environmental challenges proposed by the European Union are priority issues on all government agendas. Europe is demonstrating its determination to promote proposals to move towards the implementation of a circular economy throughout the eurozone that will help bring about a paradigm shift in the current system. Waste management is part of this environmental concern, since its impact can be significant, and intensifying waste recycling helps to reinforce the proposed challenges. Hence the launch of new grants for waste managers.
According to Order 134/2021 of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, approved on September 8, grants are granted under the Plan itself to support the implementation of waste regulations, funded by funds Next Generation EU as part of future redirection plans, establishing regulatory bases for these concessions, and thus helping to promote the fight against climate change through waste management.
The order involves four lines of grant:
- Implementation of new separate collections together with the improvement of existing ones
- Construction and improvement of specific facilities for the treatment of separately collected biowaste.
- Construction of new preparation facilities for the reuse and recycling of other waste streams collected separately.
- Construction and improvement of collection facilities (clean points) in municipalities with more than 5000 inhabitants.
The objectives of these grant lines are focused on waste management, which involves issues as important as reducing discharges, ensuring compliance with established community objectives regarding waste (objective 55% in 2025) or encouraging the recycling and reuse of municipal waste, highlighting this last point as an important factor in the circular economy.
These grants may cover up to 90% of eligible expenses, taking into account the limits depending on the grant line, such that:
- First line of grant: Maximum amount of 2,500,000€
- Second grant line: Maximum amount of 1,000,000€
- Third line of action: Maximum amount of €4,000,000
- Fourth line of action: Maximum amount of 150,000€
The funds managed by Castilla La-Mancha amount to 22.8 million euros, the main recipients being municipalities, different consortiums and waste managers. This grant of aid will be carried out based on the study of the different applications, giving priority accordingly.
Finally, the submission of these requests will be made according to the corresponding call and with a limit of less than one month from the day following their publication.
