The Extremadura Government presents this interesting Arthropod Conservation Manual.
Insect extinction rates for the next 30 years predict the disappearance of 450 species per day, or in other words, one every three minutes. The vast majority of these species inhabit well-preserved environments and are therefore unable to survive in degraded and poor quality environments. Its disappearance is a small alarm light that tells us that something is wrong with our planet.
In the case of Extremadura odonate species classified as threatened by legislation, their connection to headwaters and middle reaches of our rivers make them excellent bioindicators of the quality of our waters. Where they are present, we can talk about waters with few or no pollution problems. Its conservation in this sense should not be understood as the conservation of another species of insect, but rather as the conservation of the quality of our waters, an increasingly valuable resource.
