A Spanish company made up of three entrepreneurs has had the great idea of turning the concept of wind energy upside down in the world, and devising an energy generation system without blades, much more profitable and with less maintenance. This is the Bladeless Vortex, a technology from CDTI that exploits a well-known effect of atmospheric physics called “vortex street”, which generates lateral forces that translate into strong vibrations in vertical structures.
This effect, discovered by Von Kárman, and which is usually studied for its destructive nature, when building infrastructures such as chimneys, columns or cooling towers, now serves as a tool for designing a system that vibrates as much as possible and generates energy with this vibration.
The technology is presented at much lower costs than traditional wind power, with 53% lower manufacturing costs, as well as 80% lower maintenance costs, and promises to be a revolution in the wind energy market, with generators ranging from the Mini, with 4 kWh, to the industrial one, the Vortex Gran, with 1 MWh, which guarantees market entry at all levels.
Environmentally, this turbine has clear advantages, first of all, it reduces or practically eliminates one of the biggest negative effects of wind energy, its effect on avifauna due to its collision with the blades, and we also consider that the visual impact is also reduced.
From Ideas MedioAmbiental, where we like to support all entrepreneurs, we want to wish David Suriol, David Yáñez and Raúl Martín all the luck in this adventure that began to see the light of day a few years ago, and we invite you to visit their website and, who knows if in the future, you will participate in crowdfunding actions... From Environmental Ideas we will be informing you of its evolution.
