The announcement of the new Act

Last November, the Technical Day on Urban Planning was held in Albacete: “Challenges of urban planning in rural areas as an integrating element for its revitalization and development” organized by the Official College of Architects of Castilla La Mancha. On this day, the Councillor for Development of Castilla la Mancha, Ignacio Hernando, announced the launch of the administrative procedure for what will be the new Landscape Law of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as an important reform of the current one Spatial Planning and Urban Activity Act (LOTAU)

In this way, Castilla-La Mancha will become one of the autonomous communities (and the first in the interior) with legislation on landscape within the national sphere. It is thus added to other regions such as the Valencian Community, Catalonia, Galicia or Cantabria that already have specific landscape laws.

The objectives of the Act

This new law will have two main objectives. First of all, the enhancement and conservation of the landscape of Castilla-La Mancha. On the other hand, to improve by means of stimuli the productive activities that you want to install or expand to fix population and promote sustainable rural development.

For its part, the reform of the LOTAU aims to have a greater impact on rural areas, one of its objectives being the creation of their own legal regime for small municipalities, as well as to streamline urban planning procedures in them to improve the competitiveness of rural areas.

Urban planning is essential and should be one of the first elements to consider when choosing the location of your project in a municipality. You must select those places where the activity to be carried out is compatible with the uses allowed on that land. But in addition, it must be assumed that when the new Landscape Law comes into force, this will be another element to consider for its implementation, and you must evaluate the effects of your project on the landscape where it is intended to be located as well as its integration into it.

In Environmental Ideas we have extensive experience both in environmental assessment and in landscape studies. We carry out previous environmental feasibility studies that avoid “surprises” due to a poor selection of the location of your project. We also carry out the landscape integration study of your project in accordance with the specific legislation existing in the place where it is located.
