Air pollution from Spain's largest industrial plants cost the country between 19,300 and 41.9 billion euros between 2008 and 2012, the seventh highest in the European Union, in terms of damage to the health of citizens and the environment, according to a report by the European Environment Agency.
Air pollution results in harmful and costly impacts such as premature deaths, costs for hospital stays, days of work lost due to health problems, damage to buildings or reduced agricultural yields.
