During this month, we started the largest Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant Environmental Surveillance in Europe (so far). And we say for now, because we know that it is no longer the largest projected, but the numbers are surprising. The 450 MW Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant in the municipality of Mula (Murcia), which obtained a favorable environmental impact declaration in July 2015. It will have an area of more than 1,000 hectares (1,000 soccer fields, yes, 1,000). An installed power close to 500 Megawatts (enough to supply a city like Murcia). It is estimated that more than 1,000 people will participate in its construction, an overwhelming number.
Environmental monitoring work at the solar power plant
Our first work on Environmental Monitoring of the Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant will be aimed at informing all the agents involved in the works. We tell them about the preventive measures they should take. We provide a Manual of Good Environmental Practices, where we summarize all the guidelines to consider. In this way, we provide our experience in environmental monitoring of works.
Subsequently, our work will focus on the difficult control of the areas of action. Control of earth movement, protection of natural vegetation (thyme trees, spartals, tarayales and oleanders) with special attention to species Limonium cossonianum and Tamarix canariensis that may be present, the levels of noise, dust,... among many other controls.

We will also monitor species of interest such as the Culebrera Eagle, Partridge Eagle, Eagle Owl, Red-billed Chova or the Medium Horseshoe Bat and other species that may be present in the area.
Finally, we will prepare the relevant Environmental Monitoring reports for the Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant. We will also act as a “hinge” between the environmental authority, developer and builders, as we generally do.
Our thanks
We understand this project as an opportunity for everyone to learn about the real benefits and impacts that this type of project can have on our territory, because as we know, it will not be the last.
Our thanks to Cobra Group for counting on us for this great project. And we thank in advance all the people who will participate in it, for their understanding and acceptance of all the guidelines imposed at the environmental level that will make this a sustainable project accepted by all, including the environment that will sustain it.
