In recent years, the crisis (and other attitudes) have led environmental consultants (and many other professions) to enter into a war of prices and senseless haste. We know that these wars, like all wars, do not end well. They end up with precarious jobs and conditions for everyone, and doing jobs with diminished and in many cases without quality.

We want to value the work of the environmental consultant (and of every environmental technician). This enhancement is aimed at our clients (Administrations and private companies) but above all at ourselves.

To analyze how badly we are doing it, we ask ourselves this question: How many hours should an environmental consultant work to buy a BigMac? Well, specifically 1 hour, that is, in an hour, an environmental consultant may be receiving a whopping almost €7 on average. And the thing is that the BigMac Index not only does it serve to estimate the purchasing power of the country where it is sold. This hamburger from McDonald's It also helps us in this post to show what environmental consultants (at best) are earning for our work. That's why (and always in a humorous tone) we want to highlight the reasons why we should earn enough to buy, at least, the menu of El Corte Inglés for €10.95

Heat, cold, rain, dust, mud, mosquitoes, ticks,...

Those who are environmental field consultants, dedicated to the biodiversity, To the Archaeology Or to Agroforestry are well aware of these drawbacks. Heat, cold or rain are already common for an environmental consultant to work day or night during the 4 seasons of the year. You can see how we are equipped in some of our posts: PRL and the environment. Extreme Temperatures And in PRL and environment (II) Stings and bites.

Although it is equally true that, on many occasions, our workplace presents us with an office with unbeatable views that remind you of the reasons for this vocation and reinforce the purpose of our work.

Bad odors, fumes, dirt, pollutants,...

If the scope of work is industrial environment Or the pure and hard consulting this is what we put up with. In many cases, unhealthy areas or atmospheres and often a feeling of significant uneasiness. We take it very to heart. We are like that.

Many years of study, and we continue.

It's always said that “doctors never stop studying”, and neither do environmental consultants. After several years of university studies to become a biologist, engineer or environmentologist. We must be up to date with new study techniques, new regulations and procedures that change at an astonishing speed.

Hinge effect

We've always seen it that way. The environmental consultant is the link between the Administration and the promoter of any project. He acts as a union, mediator, translator, counselor, even psychologist and confessor. That is why we believe that it should be valued as it should be. While it is true, over the years we have witnessed great progress.

Passion for the environment

The environmental consultant exists because of his passion. It is a vocational profession and one that is due to the environment. Although the work of an environmental consultant is invisible, the advice and decisions that an environmental consultant makes and makes take prevent major disasters and improve projects and their integration into the environment.
